Transformation Thursday: The Secret to 50% of Your Weight Loss

    I’m 6 weeks 3 days away from the Ealing Half Marathon.

    A few weeks ago I wrote about my lack of running consistency; but the very act of writing this out to you forced a few changes in routine.

    I had a chat with my wife about how to best build my runs into the week to allow for consistency without losing time for family and work in the day.

    We agreed on a rotating morning schedule of training whereby one morning she’d go to the gym, one morning I’d go for my run (whilst the other looked after Sia).

    It’s working great and I’m now 3 weeks into 3 runs a week, after quite a few weeks of only managing 1-2.

    Whilst I don’t have any big training goals this year outside of maintaining a “beach lean look” throughout (which is going well), I have some unfinished business from 2023.

    Last year I competed in a Muay Thai fight and ran two half marathons - one was spontaneous and the other was the Ealing Half, where I set a goal to run sub 100 minutes.

    I was in shape but totally blew up in the race. I ignored the pacemakers, went out too fast… and 15KM in, I was on track for a 95 minute finish.

    Unsurprisingly, my legs and lungs packed up in the 16th kilometre, and I ended up finishing in around 105 minutes.

    This year I want to make amends. 

    I’m not going crazy with this as a goal - simply running 3x a week on a plan with a running coach (rather than winging it like last time) with the aim to achieve a sub 100 minute half.

    With just over 6 weeks to go, today I’ve got a “hill session”, which doesn’t sound too fun (!)…

    From next week things on the plan ramp up quite significantly, so I’m excited to see the gains in my fitness and running times!

    I figured I hadn’t shared a training update in a while so here it is for a bit of extra accountability on my end too!

    3 Ways To Look, Feel & Perform Your Best


    1. It’s 10% training, 40% diet and…

    The biggest cause of an inconsistent diet is eating away your stress, emotions and exhaustion.

    You often hear about it being 80% nutrition, 20% training but in reality…

    It’s 10% training, 40% diet and 50% how you manage your stress and emotions.

    If you’re struggling with weight loss, this could be your missing ingredient.

    I know I hammer this message almost weekly but it’s because managing your state is that damn important for long-term weight management.

    2. Nobody cares about your food choices (A message from RNT Coach Ivan)

    Do you remember that time you were driving home from a social event and you couldn’t stop talking about the person who didn’t want to eat anything?

    Yeah, me neither.

    Contrary to our beliefs, nobody cares about our food choices more than us.

    We are the ones who create the story in our minds that saying “no” is the hardest thing in the world.

    “But I just want to be polite” is a common phrase we hear.

    Have you considered that you can “politely” say no and still be the hoot of the party by actually being fun to be around?

    Last time I checked, being polite had more to do with how you converse with others along with how you make them feel.

    Not how much food you consume!

    3. The heaviest weight is the front door

    I can’t remember where I heard it - I think it may have been from James Clear, but I love this saying.

    The hardest thing is getting the shoes on, preparing the meals, filling the water bottle…

    Because once you’re in it, you’re in it!

    This is exactly how I’m feeling right now before heading out the door for my “hill session” this morning!
