    Happy Diwali!

    I know many of you reading this newsletter are celebrating Diwali today and over the weekend - I hope you have an amazing time with family and loved ones!

    If you’re on a fitness journey (especially if new), Diwali can be a tricky time.

    It may be the first time you’ve considered your food options. It may be the first time you get a few comments from others asking what you’re doing. It may be the first time you begin to wonder if this lifestyle is sustainable (who wants to resist all the delicious sweets).

    So in this week’s Transformation Thursday I’m going to address 3 of the biggest questions we’ve had from our members…

    My answers can be applied to any of the festive events we’ve got coming up in the calendar, so if you’re not celebrating, there’s something in it for you too…

    3 Ways To Look, Feel & Perform Your Best This Diwali (& Festive Season)


    1. “How do I confront family BS this weekend?”

    It’s crazy how the biggest thing on so many people’s minds is not the food, but what others are going to think or say.

    When you’re on a fitness journey, everyone loves to give their opinion. “Oh you look ill”... “when will this stop?”... “why don’t you live a little?”

    Outside of just thinking “f*ck ‘em” (which is basically the strategy!)... the key thing to remember is: 

    The ones you are dishing it out are the ones who are defecting their own insecurities onto you. Always remember this. I know how hard it is in the moment - you are going to feel uncomfortable.

    If you can tee up a few loved ones who are aware of your journey, and support you, it will help.
     
    2. “How can I have fun without blowing my progress?”

    If it’s your first time, and you’re being diligent about your food, you’ve gotta make it about the event, the company and NOT about the food.

    If you go into any event thinking the value is in the delicious food on offer, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Chances are you may be seeing people you’ve not in a while, or hopefully… seeing people you enjoy hanging out with…

    If that’s the case, make it about connecting with them, not the food. This simple mindset shift can make all the difference.

    3. “How do I navigate the Diwali sweets and buffets?”

    You’re not going to be able to stick to calorie targets, macros and all that good stuff. You’re not going to be able to control what’s on the menu (unless you’re hosting).

    But what you can do is control how much you put in your mouth. 

    If people are feeding you a barfi (happens I know), just smile and tell them “aww let’s break it up” - they’ll resist and smile but just stick to your guns! I’ve done this many a time and you quickly realise how little people actually care.

    (Quick hack - now I’m vegan, it’s the easiest way to say no to half the food available without offending anyone!)

    Portion control can be tough when all the portions are so calorie dense… but stick to one plate of food only, slow chewing (don’t just swallow your food), and ultimately, maintain an awareness of how much you’re eating.

    How Do You Lose Weight In A Household Full Of Sugary Treats?
