Transformation Thursday: Should You Schedule Sex?

    Yesterday I got some great news.

    A 6 month technology project we’ve been secretly working on for our members is being pushed live on Tuesday and I’m buzzing for it.

    It’s linked to how our members communicate both with their 1-1 coaches, and with each other in the phase-specific community and challenges we run.

    As each year goes by… and our lives get busier…so the easier, slicker and stickier we can make the experience for our members, the better.

    That means figuring out ways we can leverage our teams and technology to create what I like to call “never fall off accountability”.

    Once this feature is launched I’m hoping to create a mini explainer video, and you’ll be the first to know!

    3 Ways To Look, Feel & Perform Your Best

    1. Scheduling Sex

    Last summer 3 different friends asked me questions about their sex life.

    It all happened in a week, so I thought it’d be great to bring on a sex expert to the podcast. 

    I was introduced to Dr. Bat Sheva Marcus by one of my team and I enjoyed some of her insights on what makes great sex, and why couples end up sexless.

    One of her biggest tips was to schedule sex into the diary, just like your workouts. Instead of thinking, “Ah, that’s so boring” - it turns out it’s the best way to avoid falling into a dry spell (assuming you’re not single of course!).

    2. Your First Chin-Up

    I love chin-ups. But the hardest is getting the first one. One of my favourite exercises to get your first is to focus on eccentric-only chin-ups. So how do you do them?

    Use a box and jump to the top so your chest is touching the bar. Get your shoulder blades back and down (don’t hunch over).

    From this position, control the descent in anywhere from 5-10 seconds. 3 sets of 3-5 reps of 5-10 seconds is a great place to start.

    The key is to keep a consistent tempo through the rep - don’t jump to the top, hold for a bit, then drop fast down.

    If you’re only able to do a few, these can be great to help boost numbers too.

    3. Watch Your Shoes

    If you’ve seen a picture of me running, you’ll notice some bright orange (or blue) shoes in the mix.

    But don’t let them fool you. When it comes to weights - especially lower body, they may make it harder to nail technique.

    This is especially true for exercises requiring lots of stability in the foot like split squats, RDLs, leg presses, hip thrusts and squats.

    The more contact your foot has with the ground, the better you’re able to connect with the muscles you want.

    Coach Ivan on our team uses aqua socks/shoes and loves them! But you can get any minimalist shoe or even just try a few leg exercises in socks!
