Rima went from feeling insecure and overweight, to strangers doing double takes at her strength! This is how she did it…
Starting weight: 66 kg
Checkpoint weight: 53.6 kg
The Turning Point
Rima was struggling to feel good about her body after her two pregnancies.
Having gone through a divorce, making her a single mum of two kids meant that balancing responsibilities became even more challenging.
“I have been struggling with what I looked like and the weight I put on after having the kids.
“I lost self-confidence with my size. After my divorce, it was downhill with juggling the kids, work and fitting back into a closed judgemental society in Nairobi.
After gaining weight, her confidence in herself dwindled and she didn’t know what to do about it.
She couldn’t find time to work on her health.
Rima tried to find a weight loss strategy several times but none of them worked.
“I did many yoyo diets and tried many fitness routines but I would lose weight and then put it back on twice as fast.
“My biggest problem was being consistent with fitness, overdoing the cardio and trying to starve to lose weight when I wanted to.
“Having no accountability wasn’t working for me.”
Rima had had enough. She was ready for a change and take on the challenge.
This is when Rima jumped on board with RNT.
“As I turned 40 last year, I wanted to go big and make the change towards a better me and a healthier lifestyle.”
“I looked at many programs. RNT was on top of my list.”
Eat More And Weigh Less
Rima loved the RNT process from start to finish.
The best part was that she was eating so much more than she realised she could and still lose weight.
“I never thought I would lose weight by eating so much. The misconception of dieting and eating so little to lose weight was a wake-up call for me.
RIMA PHOTOSHOOT
“I remember the first 2 months I would struggle to get through all the food. It taught me a lot about how it’s all about eating clean.
“I’m a foodie and the toughest part was finding new recipes and turning everything on my plan into something yummy. I learned and managed this well eventually and now I feel I can write a new cookbook on it.”
Rima lost 12.4 kg and completely transformed her life.
Bouncing Back
A fitness plan will never be perfect and there are going to be roadblocks along the way.
Rima knew that the key to all of these occasions was to bounce back.
Whether this was from travelling…
“I had a lot of travel through the plan and staying on plan while I travelled was the biggest challenge.
“I did fail at times but the key was to jump right back in when I got back. Now I don’t book hotels without a gym! My mindset has changed a lot.”
Or worrying about what other people think.
“I started getting a lot of compliments as I progressed on the program and I was open about it to everyone regardless of the positive or negative comments.
“This is the one time I put myself before anything and it taught me a lot. I will do me!
“I got called ‘boring’ a lot! ‘You only live once, just have it today.’
“Yes, some days I had a treat or something but only if I wanted to and didn’t have any regrets which is what my coach taught me.
“Getting stronger and lifting more than some men at the gym also really motivated me.”
Stranger Shocked By Strength
The proudest moment that Rima had on her fitness journey was on a trip to India with her kids.
“We got on the train with three huge suitcases and I had to put them above the seat in the overhead compartment.
“I turned to sit while my daughter was nudging me and I saw some men staring at me with a weird look.
Her daughter then says, “Mummy, they were trying to help you… but you did it yourself and they were shocked at how strong you are.”
One man said to the other, “Oh my gosh, she’s strong.”
Rima’s son then says, “Of course mummy is strong. She goes to the gym every day at 5 am!”
RIMA WITH HER KIDS
“They hugged me and smiled with such pride and that is a moment that will stick with me for life. They are in awe of my journey and they want to be stronger now and eat healthier.”
One of the biggest rewards of Rima’s progress was being an inspiration to her kids.
“Being a role model like that means more than anything. Showing my daughter girls can do anything boys can is an amazing feeling.”
“I do believe your health and strength are the best gift you can give yourself.”
