How busy working Mum Payal Achieved Her Dream Physique

Payal’s fitness journey is a rollercoaster! Gaining and then regaining weight confused Payal to no end. She never had issues with her weight until her mid-thirties and had no idea how to optimise nutrition.

Starting weight: 53 kg

Checkpoint weight: 43 kg

Skinny but not strong

Growing up, Payal was always underweight.

“I did not do anything athletic – no sports, dance – I never even learned how to ride a bike or swim!”

“There was no focus on food or nutrition growing up. I snacked more than I ate proper meals. I was underweight most of my life.

She also struggled with her period due to hormone imbalance.

Even after her pregnancies, Payal didn’t seem to have any issues losing the baby weight.

But after her mid-thirties, Payal noticed her weight creep up and knew she needed to do something about it.

Smaller doesn’t mean better

The first time she stepped into a “gym” was six years ago.

“Around age 35, I started gaining weight. It was gradual and probably due to a combination of poor eating habits and sitting at a desk all day.

“I was in denial for a long time until there was no denying it.

“In February 2018 I joined a fitness centre. This was my first time entering a “gym”. It was 45-minute HIIT-style workouts plus a 4-stage nutrition plan.

“Back then I knew nothing about fitness and nutrition. Within a few weeks, I was taking two HIIT classes a day 5 days a week.

“The nutrition plan restricted so many food groups. Dairy was one of them! I essentially went from being vegetarian to vegan.

“In 10 weeks I lost 25 lbs! But I just became skinny again.

“I had no muscle tone and I wasn’t strong. I never want to look like that again.”

Even at 96 lbs, Payal was 30% body fat. She had a body that was known as “skinny fat.”

So Payal began lifting weights for the first time in the gym.

“I left the fitness centre and my husband and I joined a gym.

“I worked out 6 days a week and took different classes every day – Barbell Strength, Cardio Kickboxing, etc or I’d do a bunch of random machines thinking I was lifting weights.

“I did not know strength training and I thought as long as I was working out I was good.

“I remained skinny and fat but I never got lean or toned.”

Regaining the fat

After two years of trying to use weights, Payal didn’t gain much muscle mass.

“This is the journey of MANY women. Many of us have no clue about fitness or nutrition.”

Payal wasn’t sure what to do. Even after joining the gym and lifting weights, she wasn’t seeing the results she wanted.

“I was at my wit’s end trying to change my body composition.”

She knew that lifting weights would help her with her goals, but couldn’t seem to get her nutrition right.

She was also growing in concern about her family health history.

With her Dad’s death at 68 and her Mum’s poor health at 70, Payal wanted to take action in a bigger way.

“Genetics is not on my side. I do not want that for me.”

She needed someone with expertise to tell her what to do. This is when she decided to jump on board with RNT.

Finding the Answers

She was hesitant that she would make it to her Checkpoint weight in time for her photoshoot, but she continued to push for her goals despite any doubts.

“I am not just motivated (that only gets you so far) – I am committed to my health and wellness.”

Like many others, Payal was certainly not a fan of cardio. But again, she carried on and began to find more excitement towards the end of her fat loss phase

Her dedication to RNT allowed Payal to lose 10 kilos!

But losing the weight was just a small part of the results Payal got from RNT.

During her first year with RNT, Payal made plenty of friends from the RNT Community.

Payal proved that you can achieve fitness goals within your own home. She hit multiple PBs during her fat loss phase including her:

  • Hip thrust
  • RDLs
  • Shoulder Press

Payal is also setting a great example for her two kids, showing them how to lead healthy lives.

“My kids are more curious about protein and making healthier food choices. They also see the importance my husband and I place on movement. We are breaking the cycle.”

RNT gave her the holistic approach she was missing and helped her make lifestyle changes.

“Before RNT it took me 3 months to lose 2kg. After joining RNT, I lost 10kg in 5 months!”

She is currently working on her first pull-up and looking to grow even stronger in the future.

We can’t wait to see where Payal’s strength takes her next!
