I am a working 42 year old mother of a 4.5 year old. My job as an accountant is pretty full on and having to commute 3 hours each day which makes time a highly precious resource. Exercise had always been a big part of my life but my lifestyle changed drastically after having given birth. Juggling a career and motherhood meant that exercise had to take a backseat and after a few miscarriages it led to emotional eating.
I started exercising hard with a personal trainer a year before starting RNT. However, things that had worked for me in the past just didn’t do anything for weight loss. I was yo-yo dieting during the week and likely overeating on the weekends which led to a weight gain instead of a loss. My confidence was at an all-time low and I was also slightly depressed and frustrated that nothing was working. My mum who has had health problems all her life due to diabetes was the biggest reason why I wanted to get healthy again.
Somehow fortunately Shalini posted on Facebook about her journey and immediately her story stuck a chord with me. She had similar struggles, weight gain, body shape, and lifestyle. I just knew that if she could do it, there was no way I couldn’t achieve similar results. This motivated both my sister and me to join RNT but there was a delay in getting started as you guys were all fully booked up. Signing up was like buying concert tickets, it was insane, but it felt like we definitely won the health lottery.
Once my mind was committed, the process was something I embraced really quickly. I found the exercise part, especially the progressive training, highly motivating. I just wanted to do that much better the next time I was at the gym. Batch cooking was a pain especially since I don’t enjoy cooking, but eventually got into the groove of things, especially as I was seeing results every single week. The RNT team has been the key to this success. Always encouraging throughout and reminding me to be kind to myself when things around me were falling apart. There was always a lesson learned when a particular week wasn’t going to plan, especially when my mom got ill and during intense periods during work.
The results have been incredible. I have lost 17kgs since the beginning of the journey, most of which happened in the first 5-6 months. I walk around a lot more confident and my mental state has completely transformed too and I feel happier and super positive when thinking about the future. I can’t wait to see the improvements I can make on a daily basis for the rest of my life.
