Ever since childhood, Bhavin had struggled to control his weight.
It was only after he graduated from university that he chose to make a sincere effort to improve his health.
While he did make some progress, he was stuck in a constant yo-yo. Fed up and keen to make a change, he decided to join RNT.
1. What were the series of moments that led to your “trigger” moment to begin your journey with RNT?
Growing up, my family never prioritised nutrition or fitness. Unsurprisingly, this shaky foundation resulted in me developing a very poor relationship with food.
Years of poor habits took its toll and by the end of my first year at college, I weighed the most I have ever weighed - 180 lbs (81 kgs).
I didn’t like how this made me feel so I decided to make fitness a priority and dropped 40 lbs (18 kgs).
Ever since then, I have maintained a steady weight and continued to lead an active lifestyle.
I was healthy enough to run a marathon but I continued to be a serial yo-yoer. I was constantly losing and gaining weight for years.
2. What were your biggest problems before starting RNT?
During the pandemic, I invested in a home gym and began prioritising weight training, but my nutrition was not where it needed to be.
While training I ended up herniating a spinal disk. I had to undergo six weeks of physical therapy and then spent time rebuilding my strength.
After I recovered I decided I needed to make a change.
My wife was undergoing chemotherapy and I wanted to set a good example to my children and put my health first.
I had heard about RNT and knew of a few people who had been through the programme.
I finally took the initiative to sign up on December 18, 2021.
3. What has the process been like, and the biggest challenges and obstacles?
The past year pertaining to fitness and health has been tough but enriching.
I have been able to instil many new habits and learned much more about myself.
Prioritising these habits has resulted in real change mentally, physically, and emotionally.
It has had a positive impact on my work life as well as my personal life. I continue to create time for myself that was previously not a priority.
I didn’t need alarms to wake me up at 5 a.m. any more.
I travel often for work and leisure and learning how to prioritise my health when on-the-go has been a victory.
4. How has the physical been the vehicle?
The physical has become the vehicle because I realise how much more I can accomplish!
Anything is possible when you set intentions not resolutions, manage time, and set priorities.
The fear of failing almost kept me from joining.
I started my RNT journey with the January 2022 intake after spending the holidays in St. Thomas. A year later, I hit my checkpoint, completed my photoshoot after having dropped close to 40 lbs and am headed back to St. Thomas for the holidays as a completely different person.
Looking forward to the next stage in this journey.
