Before Paul signed up to RNT, he was so disillusioned with the fitness industry. There were too many programmes that promised the moon with no tangible results.
He wanted to improve his health and fitness, but he just didn’t know whom to trust until he came across RNT.
What were the series of moments that led to your ‘trigger’ moment to begin your journey with RNT?
I’d been constantly telling myself for the past 5-6 years that I wanted to get back into a maintainable physical condition. Unfortunately, work, personal commitments, life in general kept destroying any momentum I managed to develop.
I had managed to get into pretty good shape on my own in my early 30s, but didn’t have the know-how to maintain it.
It came to me as an awful shock when I saw an old picture of what I looked like at that time and I was horrified by how much I’d strayed away from that condition.
This rude awakening combined with hitting 40 triggered me to commit to this process.
What were your biggest problems before starting RNT?
My biggest problems involved my work-life balance.
I have always ended up putting work first. So rather than carving out an hour or two a day for exercise, I’d continue working or sit and watch YouTube whilst procrastinating.
This combined with not having a proper strategy was a pretty steep and slippery slope!
For example, I thought I was eating healthy, but without weighing food and tracking measurements I couldn’t possibly know that.
With exercise, I’d have a few plans, but be left figuring out what the best combination of things to do would be.
What has the process been like, and the biggest challenges and obstacles?
Some aspects of the process so far were pretty easy, others were more challenging.
It was easy to start on the meal and exercise plan at the start, thanks to feeling highly motivated in the beginning.
However, I was in a relationship at the time which meant we were constantly going out with friends to restaurants and food was a big component of our social activities. This meant politely refusing to eat or drink on multiple occasions, which just became too difficult.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, that situation changed and I was able to fully focus on the plan which made it much easier.
The hardest part without doubt was the last few weeks of the grind, where I had to work so hard to lose those last few kilos. I found that phase hard both physically and mentally. At that point I was tempted to switch to Consolidation much earlier but I’m glad I stuck it out.
How has the physical been the vehicle?
Hmmm, not sure how to answer this one.
Honestly, I just want to get to a point where I’m comfortable within myself, but I would also like to see what my body is capable of.
It would be nice to feel confident enough with how I look and feel to just “get on with life”. I’m not interested in showing off my new physique or anything like that.
What almost kept you from joining?
Three things: the cost, which is a big investment. I was unsure if the program was just another scam, especially since there are so many out there promising incredible results. I was also really concerned about failure. I asked myself repeatedly, “Can I do this?!” I didn’t want to invest my time and money into a process which would get me nowhere!
